New comment/reply indicator on read posts fails if post was last read with zero coments

Bug Description

I've noticed the feature that highlights the new comments on a post in a feed (e.g. "+5" for five new comments) sometimes doesn't highlight new comments. After seeing this for quite a while, I finally noticed what these posts have in common: the posts all had zero comments when I last opened/read the post.

Expected Behaviour

New comment indicator should appear for posts that have received any additional comments, regardless of how many comments had been present when the post was last read.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Find a post in the feed with zero comments
2. Open the post and then navigate away from it
3. Later reload the feed; observe that if new comments were added, the post will display the total number of comments (in gray), as opposed to the number of additional comments (in the highlight color).
