Set default language when commenting

Open Coehill opened this issue 1 year ago • 5 comments

Is Your Feature Request Related to a Problem?

Whenever I comment, the language is set to "select Language" and I need to select English. This adds more taps unnecessarily.

Feature Description

Add a default setting for comment language, or remember the language last used.

I like the idea of remembering the last language used. I think that's better that forcing a default language, because some people prefer to post without selecting a language (which uses the default language of the target community).

I didn't know that no-language used the default of the target community. Perhaps it could be more obvious?

Sure! Right now, we're following the web UI's design, which also says "Select language".

But maybe we could say something like "Default language" instead?

I think "Use community default" is more descriptive than simply "default language". If I saw the latter it would make me go looking in the app options for where to set said default.

+1, just searched for this issue. I have looked in settings many times how to set default language when commenting. I didn't understand it was set by default with language set for community. (Because each time none has been set)

It would be nice to explicitly write : "no language (no community default)" or when a language as been set for community : "English (community default)". And write it this way also when selecting. It would make it obvious what is community default and if it is what is used. If no community language is set a setting to fallback to your own default language will be a big QOL. You won't have to change anything most of the time when posting/commenting.

It doesn't sound much but I am not an active poster / commenter and regularly I try to search settings because I think I must have missed where to set it! That's why I ended to look if there was an issue about it on github! 😅
