Running python file in terminal

when i click "run python file in terminal", activating extensions shows up in status bar and then disappears, and nothing happens. i tried to reinstall both python extension and visual studio but still the problem persists, sometimes a pop-up notification appears to the lower left side of the status bar saying that python is not installed. can you please be of aid. thank you
