Whoa, thanks! Glad some people are still getting use out of this old junk. Sorry about taking so long on this. I'll have to rack my brain and test this all out on one of my new ARM boards.

FWIW, this fork with ARMv8 support worked for me on RPi3: https://github.com/rdolbeau/enable_arm_pmu But, merging the support into here would be great, to avoid the scattering.
