Given the nature of this change is to add a new feature (including what appears to be an API change) this might be better suited for merging to master?

The changes look great! I think I would just leave the markers visible when the OSD is shown instead of requiring hover.

I was able to reproduce it also.

We made an effort to substantially improve accessibility in the 10.8 server release. Please let us know how it is working and any areas where it is still lacking!

I was going to make some edits to this and flag it as a regression, but I think it maybe covering multiple issues... In my testing, touch events are broken...
