changing node sets per facet

is there a way to have in each facet only the nodes with an edge? I am trying to plot time dependent data that the nodes with edges change over time.

Any updates on this? I am also wondering if there could be an argument to facet_edges() where we can control whether all nodes are repeated in each panel or only the ones with edges
