macOS installer not working on M1 pro with Ventura

Open degrown opened this issue 2 years ago • 7 comments

I've changed my laptop, now I have:

  • model: MacBook Pro 2021
  • chip: Apple M1 Pro
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • OS: macOS Ventura 16.2

As JDK, I've installed the same as before: "OpenJDK Runtime Environment Temurin-17.0.6+10 (build 17.0.6+10)"

However my current situation is:

  • ThinkingRock Installer doesn't never opens when clicked (sometimes this happened also on the old laptop with Intel chip and macOS 12.2)
  • TR 4.0.0.beta.1 seems to works correctly when opened through executing the bin in the .zip file

@degrown can you share mentioned installer somewhere?

I tried it with the latest version and it's working on my side.

Here we are https://upload.disroot.org/r/TM4uV_kY#9MY2L+8Ib02g03TS2Q8Q7ANRtK7oYNbd594CO29MRww= (the file will delete itself after the first dowload)

I see. This is a default security settings on Mac:

“ThinkingRock Installer” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.

You have to allow it in System Settings/Privacy and Security. Here you have region "ThinkingRock Installer" was blocked from use because it is not from an identified developer. By clicking on "Open Anyway", confirming, again confirming etc. the installer will run.

It's possible to disable this kind of protection but I wouldn't recommended it.

I think that just the "Verified Apple Developer" can somehow sign the application that there won't be this blocking mechanism. Something like this: https://developer.apple.com/support/app-account/

Please, close this issue if you consider it as a solved, thank you.

I understand the problem, and I've done a similar thing on my previous os. But I think that this is not the case. Looking at one similar situation and fix (https://www.howtoisolve.com/open-apps-from-an-unauthorized-developer-on-mac-os-x/) one can see that:

  • the user sees the alert popup:
image

but I don't see anything after clicking

  • the user sees a blocking alert: image

but instead I don't see anything again: image

Well, it was blocked on my machine in that way. After unblocking it worked well. Now, let's try following.

When you open Console, choose your device on left, click Start on the toolbar and then try run installer - are there any "Errors and Faults" messages for trgtd or ThinkingRock? You can use search if there are many messages.

Btw, I assume, that you're running installer by clicking in the Finder.

Hi Radek, sorry for being late

When you open Console, choose your device on left, click Start on the toolbar and then try run installer - are there any "Errors and Faults" messages for trgtd or ThinkingRock? You can use search if there are many messages.

No I haven't any messages on the Console no...I've searched here immediately, before opening the issue

Btw, I assume, that you're running installer by clicking in the Finder. Yes exactly!

Hi both

I finally got around to verify installation on the only mac around in this house - unfortunatly an older model, where @degrown might not have had problems either:

model: MacBook Pro Early 2015 chip: Intel Core i7 RAM: 16GB OS: macOS Monterry 12.6.3

Here, after having installed java 17 (using sdkman), the installation worked flawlessly, after passing the non-verified developer warning. I used the steps described here.

So not much more help for the issues faced in this topic, I'm afraid.
