Why is python mandatory?

Trying to understand the reason, because it refuses to connect when it cannot find a python installation on the remote server

Much of the speed of Pony comes from storing changes to files in a remote memory buffer, so when you hit save it already has the changes you want saved. So there needs to be a remote client receiving changes and managing the buffers. There is discussion of changing from python but that would be a large change so no time soon.
