No, the KiCad output is only textual, not binary, so it displays some of the binary input from the file, but it isn't supposed to go to the file output....
I only have limited resources on that server, and even smaller files had sometimes caused huge loads, so I had to decrease the limit. I am trying to increase it...
You could also try the online service instead: https://www2.futureware.at/KiCad/ If you want to run it yourself you have to install Perl first, e.g. from http://strawberryperl.com/
Do you mean the previous version of Altium or the previous version of the converter? Could you provide test-files please?

I had started working on them too, but I have not found many library files on the internet. Can you provide me with files you want to have converted?
The JY61.zip contains an old Altium/Protel 5.0 fileformat PCB. Can you open and save it with a newer Altium version, and then try to convert it again?
AD 16 should be fine. Can you open it, and save it in the new fileformat of AD16 please, and try that again? And please post the file you upload...
This file converted nicely, you should have a Gyro-SchDoc.sch and Gyro-SchDoc-cache.lib. Unfortunately the symbols are named "Cap" which collides with the symbols in the newer KiCad version, so KiCad suggests...
