Dell XPS 13 Plus 9320/XPS 9320 woofer speakers do not play audio

Open andreastedile opened this issue 2 months ago • 2 comments

Hello,

I am using a XPS 13 Plus 9320/XPS 9320. This laptop has four speakers: two tweeter speakers and two woofer speakers.

The problem I face is that the internal audio only plays through the tweeter speakers. The woofer speakers appear to be inactive.

To reproduce:

  • Open https://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/
  • Set a low frequency tone (e.g. 75 Hz). Expected: sound comes from the woofers.
  • Set a higher tone (e.g. 440 Hz). Expected: sound comes from the tweeters.
  • Result: both tones come from the same (tweeter) speakers only.

I am using Fedora 42, kernel 6.17.4-200.fc42.x86_64.

The laptop's specifications can be at https://dl.dell.com/content/manual4700340-xps-13-plus-9320-xps-9320-setup-and-specifications.pdf?language=en-us

Audio specs are at page 13 and 14.

I think these are relevant:

  • Audio controller: USB Type-C digital audio/SoundWire codecs
  • Internal audio interface: SoundWire interface
  • Internal-speaker amplifier: Realtek ALC1319D

I am willing to cooperate to solve this issue. Can you please point me in the right direction?

Adding @shumingfan as this device has Realtek codec, it may be we need a codec mixer update.

@andreastedile Can you post full kernel log and also output from alsa-info (see https://thesofproject.github.io/latest/getting_started/intel_debug/suggestions.html for instructions)? Looping also @bardliao to look at the results -- do we have any leads in the log to say whether this is codec driver or topology definition issue?
