Possible to customize driver configuration?

I've tried combing through the methods, but there doesn't seem to be a way to supply custom configuration options for the chosen driver. Am I missing something, or is the driver instance simply not public?

My use-case is that I'd like to supply imagick with options such as unsharp, strip, etc.
