Title Screen is gibberish

Open MaineMike opened this issue 9 years ago • 3 comments

When I launch the game for the first time and I get this screen of gibberish of little boxes instead of text. I am on a iMac using OS X 10.10 with 32 Gigs of Ram, 12 assigned to the launcher. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong or what the issue might be with me trying to launch the mod pack?

Thanks,

Mike

That is interesting, other instances of minecraft don't do this correct, all I personally can recommend is to delete the entire regrowth folder and reinstall. (move your saves prior if you have any)

Sorry if this doesn't help just trying to suggest something since you've been waiting.

I've been experiencing this exact same thing. I reported it over on a forum post before I realized I should look around for a github repo. I've tried reinstalling, rebooting, and have double checked that this only happens with Regrowth and other MC instances work fine.

Forgot that I hadn't shared my solution yet. The forum post clued me in and I figured out the rest. The problem still occurs, but the following steps should fix it until you reboot:

  1. Once the game is open, click the icon on the menu to open the "Languages" screen.
  2. Click the lower-rightmost button ("Force Unicode") and you'll notice things are legible, albeit small.
  3. Click on "English" in the list (or whatever other language you use) and wait for MC to reload the language into memory.
  4. I like to hover my mouse over the "Force Unicode" button (without clicking) and waiting for the button to change color to indicate that it's being hovered over. This tells me that MC has finished loading because while it is loading the UI freezes. This usually takes 5-15 seconds to happen.
  5. Once you know things are loaded, press the "Force Unicode" button again to disable it and revert back to the full-size minecraft font.

The reason the rest of the steps after pressing "Force Unicode" are included are because while the unicode font is legible, it's rendered with a single-pixel stroke width that doesn't play nice with some mods, namely HQM. (i.e., the unicode font makes the HQM book unreadable.) Forcing MC to reload whatever wasn't working allows you to use the built-in font and solve that problem.

At any rate this doesn't actually solve the problem as you have to repeat this procedure every time you reboot Regrowth, but at least this workaround makes it playable until whatever is causing this is fixed.
