Is there a way to get keys off a working (non shucked) mybook/mypassport drive for safe keeping?

I am just learning about the hardware encryption issues with these drives. Is there a way to get those hardware encryption keys from the drives while they are still working in the enclosures?

My sources say that there is a control command that can be sent to the disk to read the hidden sectors, but they do not disclose the commands.

If you take the drive out of the enclosure, it is easy (most of the time).
