changelog nightly has many interrupts in the last month or so
in getting in my inbox,
is this temporarily
or does that happen to many,
hey i cried 0 1 0 1 0 1 and so on
but i do not unsubscribed in any way
when checked there is a interruption i signed once more for the newsletter
this was before 14 days
and now i have a interrupt again
thx
Same here, I haven't gotten an issue since Nov. 5. I re-subscribed but not sure if that will help.
FWIW, the Nightly came back for me on the Nov. 10 then stopped again, came back on the 15th and 16th and has been silent ever since. It seems to be a universal bug because if you look at the archives, those weeks are all missing as well:
- November 5 issue is there
- November 6 issue is missing
- November 10 issue is there
- November 17 issue is missing
Pinging @jerodsanto who seems to maintain this repo, so maybe he can tell us if it's coming back soon.
12 minutes after posting that last message I got the Dec. 2 issue. So now I don't know what to think! 🤷
It looks like the rake generate command is choking on days when BigQuery doesn't return any results from one of our two queries. The intermittent failure is because sometimes the top_new query returns results and sometimes it doesn't.
Historically this has always had results, so I'm not sure what changed lately on GHArchive's side that would cause the change.
I need to adjust the program to gracefully handle this case and just leave that portion of the email empty, I guess.
I modified the code to gracefully handle empty results and re-ran the generator for a couple of the days that were missing (October 9th and 10th). It's not just the "top_new" query that was empty that day... both of them were.
I don't know what's up with that, but I do know that it's outside of our control.
What should happen on days like these where we get zero repos from the archive? Not send an email? Send an empty email?
Thanks for looking into that. I guess sending an empty email would be one choice, but it might be confusing. Is it possible to add a note in the email that says something like "no links available today" or something like that? I don't know if that makes any difference, but it might at least prevent people from thinking there's a bug that you can fix.
