Record edits live - level 1

Tentative Description

Add recording functionality.

In the dope sheet there will be a record button. When the user clicks the record button the button will change to a "recording red" color and recording begins. While the recording is happening, Theatre will sample the state of the prop being recorded every frame and create a keyframe for it. This means that the user can use the props menu or another means of editing the state of the prop (browser console, bring your own editor, etc) and their edits will be recorded in realtime. Screen Shot 2022-03-28 at 7 29 05 AM The user can press the recording button to stop the recording. The user may clean up the recording with existing keyframe selection and deletion functionality.

Want to make a character in your scene wiggle weirdly? You could hit record and drag the character around erratically with your mouse. Want to record your process while creating an environment for you animation? record!

Mock up

Screen Shot 2022-03-28 at 7 24 05 AM This mock up shows the record button to the right of the prop name in the dope sheet, and shows the keyframes created after 1 second of recording. ## Design questions - Where is the best place for the record button? Beside the prop name in the dope sheet? in a context menu? somewhere else? - Can we add controls that enable the user to record multiple props at once?
