error on 2026.1

Open Siletrea opened this issue 4 months ago • 5 comments

hello! I'm on the prowl for a new direct vertex weight management plugin for skinning my models (weight painting doesn't work well for me) and so I decided to try out yours and after installing got the error of:

Error: ModuleNotFoundError: file D:\Documents/maya/scripts\weights_editor_tool\weights_editor.py line 21: No module named 'shiboken2'

my prior weight tool experience has been: PMDE Skinmagic by Animbai

so I'm not sure how a softimage skinning method will work for me but desperation is a great incentive, and I do need something to work! if you would kindly look into this error? I would appreciate it!

what version of maya are you using? the mixed / and \ on that path is also a bit strange

Like Enrique said, you're likely using one of the later versions of Maya where this tool doesn't work in. I am planning to get it working with Maya 2025 and above and will follow up when that's up.

ah I see! your both correct! my apologies for bugging you on something your already tinkering on!

may I ask what Shiboken 6 is though? I've never heard of that before and am very curious

This page explains it in a nutshell - it's mostly to help bridge that particular version of Qt (C++) to work in Python.

The reason you see shiboken6 is because that version of Maya is using PySide6. If you go back a few Maya versions that were using PySide2 it needed shiboken2 instead. Go back even further to Maya 2016 and it was using PySide with shiboken.
