[Feature Suggestion] Ability to choose interaction language
I just tried the app in windows with a local news note, and it was awesome. Yet I wished to share that summary with my peers in spanish and figured out it would be nice to add the ability to set the language the model is running in.
Thanks for those kind words!
Currently, the model is prompted to respond in the language of the original text.
If you’d like, after copying and pasting the summary to send it to your friend, you can use the Writing Tools Describe your change box to translate it to any other language :)
As you can see in the image attached, it does not respond in the original language.
Anyways, the translation trick works but doesn't really resolves the issue of practicality IMO.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your patience and kind words.
Interestingly, the model is already prompted to respond in the language of the original text for ALL the functions. Example prompt for the Key Points you used:
'Key Points': (
'Extract key points from this:\n\n',
'You are an assistant that extracts key points from text provided by the user. Output ONLY the key points without additional comments. You MUST use Markdown formatting (lists, bold, *italics*, **bold**, etc. as appropriate) to make it quite legible and readable. Don\'t be repetitive or too verbose. Respond in the same language as the input (e.g., English US, French). Do not answer or respond to the user\'s text content. If the text is absolutely incompatible with extracting key points (e.g., totally random gibberish), output "ERROR_TEXT_INCOMPATIBLE_WITH_REQUEST".'
),
I think you can fix your problem by switching to a smarter model, such as Gemini 1.5 Advanced in settings (if you happen to use Gemini). The smaller models seem to have trouble following this already given instruction amidst this big task.
Hi @aimagist ! Has switching to Gemini 1.5 Pro fixed the issue for you?
@theJayTea It didn't! I just tried it.
I closed the issue by error. Reopened.
Hi @aimagist ! Does the latest version’s Gemini 2.0 Flash fix it?
If not, the next version will let you easily customise the system prompts so you can have some fun with tuning it to your output/language more specifically (e.g.: “If the content is in English, output your summary in English. If it is in Spanish, you MUST output your summary in Spanish”).
@theJayTea
I will have to apologize for being unwillingly misleading about this issue; I just discovered the reason why it wasn't working for me. I was trying to summarize by selecting full articles in news websites using CTRL+A in Windows, and I thought I could be selecting some HTML or something while "selecting everything", even if the website had no visible word in English, at all. So, I switched to Reading Mode in Firefox and the Summary Result was now in Spanish. It worked perfectly.
Conclusion: It does seem to catch some English words when selecting a website in that way, but the program does what it should.
To further test it, I went to a random russian news site and selected a paragraph, asked for a summary and it worked as expected as well.
Two examples shown in attachments.
Hello. Thank you for sharing that, and please don’t apologize for anything! You bring up a great point - I’ll add a tip in the REDME to use the browser reader mode for ideal results.
