Can't select objects near simulation controls

If an object is near the simulation controls, you can't select or grab it. It seems there is an invisible rectangle around the simulation controls. You can't select anything in this rectangle.

How to reproduce:

Go to editor
Place any rectangular object
Make it really big
Drag it to the top right corner of the screen, near the simulation controls
Now hover with the mouse all over the object and see where it turns blue and where it doesn't turn blue

The object can't be hovered if the cursor is on the controls. This is OK. But it also can't be hovered in some kind of invisible “bounding rectangle” around the controls.
