About The Pull Request
Redesigns the Drone's kit by adding, changing, and removing abilities. The following changes have been made:
Essence Link
No plasma cost | 5s cooldown
New ability! Establish a link with another xeno. Both xenos must be within 6 tiles of range for this link to remain active (not necessarily in line of sight), and linked xenos cannot have multiple links. You can cancel this link by right clicking the ability button or using the appropriate keybind. This link will passively gain an attunement level every 1 minute, up to three levels. It will also grant the link's target the following bonuses while active, some of which scale with attunement levels:
- If they are missing any health, this link will consume the Drone's plasma to regenerate health every 2 seconds. This passive regeneration scales with attunement levels, and is equal to 1.2% / 2.4% / 3.6% of the target's maximum health. The plasma cost is 2 times that value.
- Any heals applied to either of the linked xenos are also applied to the other, with reduced effectiveness. This reduced effectiveness scales with attunement levels, equal to 10% / 20% / 30% of the health restored.
- Buffs applied to either of the linked xenos are also applied to the other one.
The level of attunement is represented in the ability icon's changing bar, and the intensity of the beam.
Enhancement
No plasma cost | 120s cooldown
New ability! Drive a linked xeno past their limits, increasing their slash damage by 15% and their movement speed by 0.4. This will drain 10% of the Drone's plasma every 2 seconds while it is active. Has an initial requirement of 3 attunement levels, and consumes 1 in its usage.
Acidic Salve
Changed! Besides the usual heal; if the target is a linked xeno, they will receive a health regeneration buff that restores 1% of their maximum health every 2 seconds. Additionally, if the linked xeno is under 15% health, an attunement level will be consumed to triple the potency of the heal (not the regen buff).
The rest of the changes
- Removed Ozelomelyn Sting. This honestly never had a place in the Drone’s kit, and the rest of the changes should more than compensate for its absence.
- Sow, the Drone's previous primordial ability, has been given to the Hivelord instead of their current primordial ability.
Why It's Good For The Game
The Drone should have an identity of its own, with a carefully thought of toolkit and a gameplay experience that’s not just pressing W-A-S-D around a marine and calling it a day. I believe the tool kit to be unironically fine outside of combat (see: Acidic Salve and Transfer Plasma, resin building), which means that I will leave that mostly intact.
I feel this is the sort of redesign that would make Drone more enjoyable to players, while adding a degree of complexity that was otherwise absent.

I for one cannot wait for a drone riding on crusher to Essence Link or Enhance crusher.
That PR has had a lot of work put into it, and I don't see anything wrong with it. Perhaps the change to the hivelord might make some grimace, if it is replacing or removing another thing. I'm not sure that I've understood the line in the changelog well.
In either case, I'd like to see 3-4 days of TM for it.
The link abilities seem extremely strong, only limited by the short range. 0.4 slowdown for example is the difference between heavy and light armour.
@BraveMole, added a var for stacking status effects that allows defining whether the status should be removed due to being under one stack. The intent is to prevent the link from being broken due to being under one stack. Of course, having no stacks means no bonuses, so it's something of a QoL feature so you don't have to reestablish a link every time you run out of stacks.
OH SHIT, I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THIS WAS THE DRAFT THING FROM 8 DAYS AGO, THIS SOUNDS FUCKING AWESOME! I love it, really gives Drones more of an identity than just building shit and helping you get back to 100% out of combat. I mean, Drones were fine before, but this makes them more than just 'Fine', it makes them really damn cool and honestly a lot more interactive in general.

very cool, I hope this gets merghed
one problem though, unlinking with a linked xeno is sometimes incosistent, cant unlink at times both when pressing the dedicated bind and right clicking the button. might be a bug?

Dead drones leave a link that blocks that alien from recieving new links permanently :(
