Marine and SOM armour rebalancing

Open Lumipharon opened this issue 2 years ago • 10 comments

About The Pull Request

Some number tweaks to make things more consistant.

Marines Marine helmets now have the same armour values as heavy armour across the board. Previously they have notably lower bullet, laser, energy and acid armour. MX11 helmets are now just 5 more armour across the board (except for melee which was already higher).

SOM SOM shoes and gloves now have the same armour as marine versions, except veteran gloves which have 5 higher on bullet, laser and energy.

Some consistancy changes for SOM armour: 5 higher acid armour on medium and heavy armour (still lower than marine versions however). 5 lower bomb armour on heavy and Gorgon armour 5 lower fire armour on Gorgon armour

SOM helmets adjusted so that the standard helmet is equal armour values to medium armour and veteran helmets are the same as heavy armour.

What does this mean for unga? In HvX, the asshole aiming head will do less damage, basically, and xenos spitting head will do very slightly less.

In HvH, aiming head will be far less effective than before, and against light and medium armoured TGMC, is actually worse than aiming for the torso, while SOM SL's specifically are best shot in the head.

Why It's Good For The Game

Consistancy good Better balance in HvH

Changelog

:cl: balance: Marine helmets now consistantly provide the same armour as heavy armour, with MX11 helmets a little better against projectiles balance: SOM armour tweaked slightly to be more consistant, with shoes and gloves now having the same armour as marine versions /:cl:

Balancing the game around HvH is not something the community will like. That being the said, the overall variables here seem fine.

Always thought the helmets were a bit lacking in any of the modes. Look forward to it! Maybe players won't aim head as much in hvh and maybe aim groin or legs and the such.

I mean how many xenos aim for the head outside of decapitation though? In my experience it's usually just chest/arms.

Why buff acid armour values?

Why buff acid armour values?

I'd reckon it's because of the acid gas grenades we have in HVH.

Why buff acid armour values?

Why make the head vulnerable to acid compared to the rest of the body, when there is zero penalty for aiming head?

Lumipharon avatar Aug 30 '22 12:08 Lumipharon

Just a thought. Could you make it harder to hit the head as well? Bullets that is. Not xeno spit and melee. Shooting a target is good but landing headshots that are moving are a bit difficult. It's way easier to land body shots. I know I'm comparing irl with a game about space wars. Just a thought.

Because most Mimir modules come with a head module as well and nullify the weakness completely.

Acid castes aim head since aiming for any other part has no benefit whilst melee castes have the luxury of aiming for head, chest and limbs.

Mimir increases armour equally by 15 across your entire body (or 30 for mk.II), including the head. I'm not exactly fixated on that change, it was literally just a consistancy thing, so if maints don't want it I'll flip it back for acid specifically. It's just a weird quirk that you won't know about without checking helmet stats vs armour stats, and punishes beno for forgetting/not knowing to target head for more damage (but only with spit).

A lot, actually. Even if I were to give you the benefit of the doubt, that's still a really bad reason to make a change that affects regular Marine vs Xeno gameplay
