@swissarmykirpan Yes, this is an IMMENSE PR. I don't think we should merge this PR in this form.

I'm using this PR so that everyone can get a chance to comment on the proposed structure, coding style, and everything else.

After no one has more comments, I'll send smaller PRs so that we can scrutinize the code a lot more minutely.
