A notification is buggy in telegram inside the app

Open SayBoTF opened this issue 1 year ago • 51 comments

Steps to reproduce

1.look video

Expected behaviour

a blue circle with a number should appear when the administrator posts something to the group in real time

Actual behaviour

nothing happens, the admin posts something, the circle does not appear, if you click on the group, then all posts are displayed

This error appeared after the update from 06.06.2024, reinstalling to older versions did not help

In the video, you can see that I'm in the menu, and there are no notifications. I go in, and a notification about a new post appears immediately, even though it was posted a long time ago.

Hi. I'll need debug logs to check on this one. To enable collection of debug logs please:

  1. Open Main Menu -> Settings
  2. Type from the keyboard "debugmode", like a cheat code in a game
  3. Agree to enabling debug logs
  4. Reproduce the issue (have a new message in one of your channels not appear in the chats list for some time, like, ten minutes, and then open the channel and see that it appeared there instantly)
  5. Please collect several screenshots - (a) the channel in the chats list before opening it (so the old message is shown there and you know that a new message should be there for already ten minutes), (b) the channel in the chats list and the channel history after you open it and the new message is shown both in chats list and channel history.
  6. Write another cheat code in Settings, "viewlogs", it will open folder with DebugLogs folder.
  7. Quit the app completely using Ctrl+Q
  8. .zip the DebugLogs folder and send it to me at https://t.me/preston along with the screenshots from (5)

Be aware that all network activity is recorded in debug logs, don't share them publicly.

Same issue on Windows 10, so perhaps it's not OS-specific. It happens even after auto-update of TDesktop a few minutes ago (v 5.1.7). Actually, the same issue exists on Android - I need to open the channel to see that it has any new message. "Alternatively", to refresh all channels at once, I have to close the app and start it again - for both Windows and Android again.

Update. Just found that for Android even restart may not help. I can also say that channels which I subscribed are in folders, "archived", and have notifications switched off - so, circle is not blue but grey. But at least a week ago everything worked well. Android received this bug first, and a couple of days ago it appeared also on Windows.

Probably the issue appeared after recent telegram outage on June 8.

Same problem on Windows 10. It started around June 6, before massive Telegram failure. Messages appear either when restarting the application (all messages for all channels) or when clicking on a channel (messages appear only for the channel you clicked on). After restarting the application messages come automatically without any problems for about 15 minutes then they stop coming again. Going back to older versions doesn't help. This problem is also present on Android.

Windows 10, Telegram Desktop 5.1.7, not fixed.

alexgfi avatar Jun 15 '24 13:06 alexgfi

@alexgfi Judging by the logs I've received this looks like a server side issue :( Checking with the server side developers.

Flatpak/Snap, Telegram Desktop 5.1.7. Same problem.

Are there any plans for a fix in the near future?

@alexgfi Судя по логам, которые я получил, это похоже на проблему на стороне сервера: ( Уточняю у разработчиков на стороне сервера.

Is there any answer?

SayBoTF avatar Jun 26 '24 16:06 SayBoTF

The same problem

Windows 10, Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS

Telegram version: 5.1.7

elPartizan avatar Jun 27 '24 08:06 elPartizan

The same issue. Windows 11, Fedora 40 (AppImage), Telegram 5.1.7

brainstream avatar Jun 28 '24 20:06 brainstream

I've been dealing with this issue for about three months now, and nothing has helped to resolve it. The problem persists across Windows 10, Android, and Arch Linux, so it's clear that it is somehow related to the account rather than the application.

why did Aokromes close the problem if it wasn't resolved?

because it's server bug.

I've given up and am no longer waiting for this problem to be fixed because some people have had this problem since the beginning of 2023. I made a task in Windows Task Scheduler that restarts Telegram every ten minutes with a bat file. Now this is the only way I can get fresh channel notifications that are very important to me.

Mupyr avatar Jun 30 '24 03:06 Mupyr

In view of the incompetence of the developers and the irrepressible desire of the management to monetize human greed, instead of solving real problems of users, the only correct solution is to refuse to use telegram. Telegram must die!))

DddVvv7 avatar Jun 30 '24 05:06 DddVvv7

So, can someone in charge answer clearly if this problem will be solved in the near future? It has become very inconvenient to use Telegram on the Desktop. At the same time, everything works perfectly with Telegram on iPhone. tia

Can you please share this .bat file? And perhaps a simple instruction? tia

Та же проблема. С мая месяца проявилась у меня. Обновления не помогают. На андроиде периодически замечаю, не всегда.

deeffoora avatar Jul 15 '24 13:07 deeffoora

The developers have not been able to fix the bug for so long time! Shame!

PROREPAIR avatar Jul 16 '24 23:07 PROREPAIR

Всё же работало! Верните как было. Откатите эту область.

arvalon avatar Jul 17 '24 06:07 arvalon

@PROREPAIR I reported this to the server side team and they're working on it (at least I was told they do), so there is nothing I (developer) can do about this now.

john-preston avatar Jul 17 '24 09:07 john-preston

@john-preston I don't understand this. Do the desktop and mobile apps use different APIs? Mobile apps have no problems updating channels.
