[Feature Request] Ability to go offline
I would like to request an ability to disconnect client without quitting completely, like all other good messengers have. By right-clicking on taskbar icon, user should be able to switch between online and offline status. While offline, client shouldn't be able to send/receive any network requests and generally behave like there's no Internet connection at all. Without this feature, the only way to disconnect the client is to terminate it, which is extremely annoying.
Man, that would be so awesome!! Can you imagine being able to make a messenger go off-line? Make it disconnect from the Internet without being shut off? Crazy stuff, it gives me shivers!
Oh wait, hold on... I just remembered some rumors I've heard once...
Long ago, in the 20th century, there were some very primitive messengers that worked only in desktops - yeah, it's unbelievable, nothing for mobile! Ugh! - anyway, they lacked all sort of the most important features we have today, like sending GIFs and stickers... but there were these rumors that some of them had things that even now we struggle to achieve, like the ability to add someone to your contact list without a phone number - not just start a chat with the person, but literally add then to your contact list!! Yeah, I know, nonsense, LOL... But hey, the rumors go way beyond this, as far as telling that not only they could go off-line, they could even hide their on-line status from others!! Can you possibly imagine that??? That's totally mind blowing!! It's like becoming invisible, like you're under the radar or "hiding from the mafia"!! Insane! And they also say there was some kind of flower back then that could put all of your contacts into categories! LMAO! They didn't even have stickers and people say they had such advanced features! 😂😂
Tell you this: sorry to disappoint you, but that's just to show that what you're asking is just way too cutting edge for the time being. If those messengers from the past really had such amazing features, of course all decent messengers today would have too, so what'sup with all of this story? We weren't struck down by a global catastrophe that seriously damaged our brains, right? You're just asking for too much...
@stek29, sure, feel free to use it any way you want. Just don't get too excited about what I said, we're still many years away from such kind of technology - maybe we'll never get there.
many closed issue for offline desktop. They argue this will open volnurability in the app. I suggest if any solution to connect the desktop to android app without internet, then messages could be fetched from android without using internet. But fetching messages everytime online require heavy traffic = cost

Any news? I understand there is a vulnerability-issue if this is implemented, but I am okay with it. You could show a big warning to users when they try to enable this. You may also force users to encrypt the data. There are valid reasons. There are many places in many countries where you can't access internet connection or with very slow connection. There are also times when you don't want to connect to Telegram due to security/privacy issue. Please implement this feature.
Here we are on February the 15th of 2023 and people still need this offline feature why can't it be implemented if it's supported on android? if it is a vulnerability why did they allow this feature on the phones but only disagree to implement it on desktop?
Becoming invisible nowadays in the time of massive online communication, watchers, tracking systems, etc... would be even more needed than in the past days of ICQ (that IM 100% had the invisibility feature ;) May be some others too, like Jabber or Mirc... can't remember over decades...)))). You youth just don't know you desperately need it :D
