Unable to Create Bookmarks with Drag&Drop into Folders

Description

Tool installed since ever, thank you for your effort! Problem: Since some days I can no longer create Bookmarks from URL entry field by clicking on lock sign then dragging and dropping to a bookmark folder. The bookmarks instead are put to the end of bookmarks. Of course I have many other addons installed, but the normal behavior can be brought back by deactivation this addon.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. activate addon
2. drag and drop URL to bookmark folder
3. -> bookmark goes to the end of bookmarks
4. deactivate addon
5. drag and drop URL to bookmark folder
6. -> bookmark lands in the folder

Expected behavior

Creating bookmarks this way must put them into pointed folder.

• Firefox edition: Firefox (regular edition)
• Firefox version: 85.0
• Firefox language: Menues acutally are German but was installed in English initially (don't know when this changed)

• Platform/OS: Windows 10 PRo

That's about the same request i made about a year ago:

For the "drag and drop" reason i'm still using version 2.11.0 of the add-on. Version 2.11.0 is still working fine in Firefox 85.0 and i hope it will keep on working for some time on newer versions of Firefox.

For me the add-on started to have problems since version 2.12.0. Since 2.12.0 when i tried to drag and drop url's from the address bar to the bookmark folder, that also happens to be my "quick bookmarking" folder, the bookmarks were placed to the top or bottom of the folder (depending on the option screen setting) and never stayed at the location where i dropped them.

Version 2.12.0 included a user request to have an option to add new bookmarks to the top of the folder instead of the bottom (the default Firefox behaviour). Since then Default Bookmark Folder never worked again the way i liked it. I've tried all the updates since 2.12.0, but sadly none of them had a fix for this annoying behaviour.

For me there are 2 reasons why i like and use this add-on:

1. The options to change the default bookmark folder where Firefox stores new bookmarks
2. The Quick Bookmark icon

All other options don't matter to me as long as they don't hinder the default Firefox bookmark behaviour. But the option, where you need to chose where the bookmark ends up inside the folder (top or bottom), does hinder the default Firefox bookmark behaviour.

Why isn't there an option to bypass this whole top-bottom sorting behaviour inside the add-on? So you will have 3 options:

1. Top
2. Bottom
3. No sorting at all (The "old" pre 2.12.0 behaviour using the default Firefox behaviour)

If you can include that option, the new bookmark will end up at the bottom of the folder, but there won't be any problem when you drag and drop new bookmarks to any bookmark folder. This functionality still works fine in version 2.11.0 installed in Firefox 85.0, so it should be possible to include an option like that.

I'm still hoping this can be fixed one day because this add-on is a great time saver.

Same here since the update to Firefox 85.0 and/or the addon updated itself to 3.1.0 at 27th January 2021 according to FF's addon page.

Same problem I am now experiencing Not sure if it was due to FFox updating to 85.0 or the add-on going to 3.1. Please revert to old behavior. This is most annoying. I love the Quick bookmarking feature but also like to be able to drag and drop.

First, thank you for this extension - it is very useful.

I first noticed this behavior about a week ago as I regularly save bookmarks into individual folders using drag and drop.

When I saw this issue earlier this morning, I decided to investigate it a bit and see if I could find the root cause. After a few minutes, I isolated it to this extension - I am using FF 85.0.2 on Window 10 Pro (Version 2004) and Version 3.1.0 of this extension.

I was going to open an issue but when I got to github, I found that others had already written it up.

Like others have already mentioned, I really like the quick bookmarking feature but also want to be able to drag and drop.

Had to uninstall this very useful plugin because this bug disables another feature that is very much essential - the ability to quickly drag and drop multiple links/tabs into the bookmarks manager.

I really hope this will be fixed soon, this is a crucial extension for me but as it is now it's pretty broken.

Oh THAT'S why my bookmarks are suddenly getting cluttered. I don't normally update extensions unless they break, and this kind of thing is why lmao. Confirming that version 2.11.0 still has the desired behavior on Waterfox Classic.

Same - drag and drop to a folder but bookmark gets created in Bookmarks Menu. Disable add-on, bookmarks are created where dragged to. Shame because this add-on is a great idea and solved the problem as intended.
