Going this route though, code generation is probably the only scalable way to handle the combinatoric explosion Fastutils itself uses code generation.

It sort of sounds like the performance characteristics across different filesystems and disk types have diverged enough that a single, global value for `vm.dirty_bytes` and `vm.dirty_background_bytes` is no longer sufficient...

I can confirm this. It used to work in Java 8, but some recent update broke it.
