Change term - verbatimIdentification

Term change

  • Submitter: Quentin Groom
  • Efficacy Justification (why is this change necessary?): The Zoological Code of Nomenclature does not rule on the format of hybrid names, but the Code for algae, fungi and plants is quite specific that the multiplication sign × should be used. Only in the unusual case that it is not available can one use the lower case x. Therefore in the interests of harmonization of hybrid names I would not use the capital X in the examples, even though it is an animal hybrid. I also think some plant hybrid names as examples would be useful, because plant hybrid names and formula are much more common.
  • Demand Justification (if the change is semantic in nature, name at least two organizations that independently need this term): We have estimated that there are about as many hybrid plant taxa as there are species in the largest plant family (Asteraceae)
  • Stability Justification (what concerns are there that this might affect existing implementations?): This change is aimed at improving stability and interoperability
  • Implications for dwciri: namespace (does this change affect a dwciri term version)?: none

Current Term definition: https://dwc.tdwg.org/list/#dwc_verbatimIdentification

Proposed attributes of the new term:

  • Examples (not normative):
  • Change the example Anser anser X Branta canadensis to Anser anser × Branta canadensis and add the examples Potentilla × pantotricha Soják and Aconitum pilipes × A. variegatum `
