installation fails on Ubuntu 16.04
I just started a fresh AWS machine and the installation fails with the following error:
creating build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7/build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7
x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc -pthread -DNDEBUG -g -fwrapv -O2 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fno-strict-aliasing -Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -g -fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Werror=format-security -fPIC -I/usr/include/python2.7 -c build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7/_openssl.c -o build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7/build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7/_openssl.o

compilation terminated.

I entered the following commands after creating the machine:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python-pip
sudo pip install --upgrade pip
sudo pip install cassandra_snapshotter
You are missing ssl libs, installing libssl and build-essentials should get you going or in the right direction

Yes, thank you ,as it turns out I was missing libssl.
Since usually an installer would also install its dependencies, it would probably be good if your installer also checked for those packages and installed them automatically if needed.
Thanks and best regards, Matthias Otto

I had to add: sudo apt-get install python-pip build-essential libffi-dev g++ libssl1.0.0 libssl-dev libyaml-dev libpython2.7-dev
But it really depends which AMI you are starting with. I don't think the pip installer should fetch and install the dependencies, but it could warn they are needed.
