After editing, always go back to the previous thing

Currently, if I'm viewing a list of person groups, and I click "edit" next a group, then save, I'm taken to the "view group" page for that group. Understandable, but if I want to go back to the list of groups I have to go back several steps in my browser history.

I wonder if it's possible that whenever I edit an object, I'm then taken back to whatever page I was on before. Eg if I was viewing the person group, go back to that page If I was viewing a list of groups, go back to that list etc

Can we use Javascript to call history.go(-1) or something like that?
