Large photos cause DB error

Got this in the log:

DB error on insert into person_photo .... [Native code: 1153] [Native message: Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes]

Suspect somebody uploaded a very large image. We need to protect better against this.

(I seem to remember we resize images on upload... how is it still so big after resize?)
