Option for roster display to extend down the page instead of across

Open helpware opened this issue 9 years ago • 3 comments

We have defined many roster rolls. Thus you need to scroll Rosters Horizontally a lot to view some info. Some members don't see the horizontal scrollbar -- They are used to scrolling up and down only. Also they can't print the roster as it's too wide. To fit on A4 the text becomes too small.

A checkbox to display items vertically would be helpful. So dates across top & items down page. At the moment we can't print or easily PDF without doing a lot of work in Excel flipping the items.

Mockup of possible solution

Thanks for considering this Tom Rob

This would be quite a lot of effort to achieve, and if you had more than few weeks on the roster you'd run into the horizontal scrollbar again.

Looking at your current roster, you might like to consider splitting it into two roster views - one for in-the-service roles such as music and bible reading, and another for more peripheral things such as brass, warden duty etc.

You're not the first one to ask about flipping the roster around, however. So it's a possibility.

Thanks Tom. It was worth asking :-) Excel 2013 has a "Transpose Paste" (flip) option so easy to produce printable PDFs. Most members can deal with emails and PDFs. It's just another job. I'll have a think about your suggestion to split, Keep it in mind... The code would probably just need to buffer records in arrays then output flipped from the array buffer. But I appreciate it's not trivial.
