PLWF105 (Dockstream Fountain) accurate water consumption tracking in homeassistant

Hi @taylorfinnell , I use your great project with my Dockstream Fountain for some while now. I wonder if you found a way to accurately track the water consumption in homeassistant, accounting for evaporation. The Petlibro app must be doing something not to complicated.. I think about using a derivative sensor with "Internal Water Level" as input to detect spikes with a reasonable threshold and than sum the integral of those spikes up to calculate the water consumption over time. Am I overthinking? What is your approach?
