Explain how PTR records are supposed to be set

Open taoeffect opened this issue 10 years ago • 1 comments

If people get delayed mail warnings or this type of thing:

Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 450 4.7.1 Client host rejected: cannot find your reverse
   hostname, [176.56.x.x]

Then explain that their PTR record needs to be set, and this can only be done by the company that owns the IP of their server (not necessarily the company that manages their DNS).

So for RamNode for example you need to follow these instructions, which involve pointing setting the PTR for your mail server's IP to the mail server domain (i.e. mail.yoursite.com).
