Getting a translucent fill

ENVIRONMENT: Ubuntu 16.04 Firefox ESR

I'm having trouble getting a translucent fill, as in this example

image With fill: inlay I get red with rgba(255, 0, 0, 1) and grey with rgba(255, 0, 0, .9)
