--daemon does not release the terminal in some distros

We haven't found the root of the problem yet, but it seems --daemon is not releasing the terminal in some systems. Some dependencies may be missing in those, since we've tried both in OSX Catalina and Ubuntu and, for the latter, it worked for @bigspider but didn't for me.

Gave this another try on Ubuntu (both 18 and 20) on docker and it failed. Tried on a regular Ubuntu (not dockerized) and it worked fine.

It may be a docker issue.
