I see. This is not a trivial change. I am of course open for anyone to make an attempt but I will probably not have time for it myself.
I haven't looked at this at all. I think it is very niche and as a result I think it should not affect more regular use of the library. So...
I don't mind having some new functions to expose only what you need, feel free to open a PR. If possible I'd like internal specifics not to leak to userspace.
