Why does tachyons website say to install the library as dev dependency?

The getting started section of the site instructs us to install the library as a dev dependency. Why is that? The css classes are needed in production. If any business uses the npm install --production command, it will not be included in the javacsript bundle. Is this a small mistake in the docs or has this been done on purpose?
