Question about sorting icons

Pawel, great job on your icon set, first of all.

In todays update (2.46.0) I saw your sorting icons. I love the concept of the arrow going always down, and instead of depicting the "group name" next to it to indicate what you are sorting for, you depict two items of that group in the order they are going to be sorted.

This is much more intuitive than the arrow changing direction. But, it seems to me, also harder to implement? I can imagine an alphabetical sorting where you put an A above a Z or vice versa - but how would you do it for time, for example? All I could come up with is some faded-out black (aka grey) bar ontop of a black bar to indicate "from old to new", but not sure if this would work.
