Couldn’t turn on service - TabMon-Postgres and TabMon

Open andylaw2014 opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have encountered a special situation after TabMon re-installation. I couldn’t turn on service TabMon-Postgres and TabMon. It is amazing that TabMon-Postgres and TabMon could be turn on if I turn off service Tableau Server Administration Controller. May I seek for your advice to know the root cause? I though it’s about port number (I am investigating in this way). And I need help to drill down into it. Thanks a lot!

Regards, Andy

Hello,

Can you send me the TabMon logs? They are found here: <ROOT>\TabMon\Logs\TabMon.log.txt

Once I have these I should be able to take a look.

Thanks, Dan

Dear Dan

Thanks for your feedback! It would be divided into two parts: TabMon-Postgres and TabMon

  1. TabMon-Postgres When I try to turn on service TabMon-Postgres, it shows error message: The TabMon-Postgres service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. I have drilled into Event Viewer (run -> “eventvwr.msc -> WIndows Logs -> Application). And it shows error message: FATAL: could not create any TCP/IP sockets

I have tried few solutions but fail. It would be shown as below for your reference: Edit file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\hosts, then add the following words: 127.0.0.1 localhost

  1. Tabmon When I try to turn on service TabMon, it shows error message: Window could not start the TabMon service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied. In \TabMon\Logs\TabMon.log.txt, it shows ‘Invalid options in configuration’ and ‘Object reference not set to an instance of an object’. Capscreen would be shown as below. I am very sure the hostname and IP are correct. I have checked in cmd hostname and ipconfig. Hostname is UBDPHKWWEB02 and IP is 10.X.X.X. image

For more background information, my re-installation step would be shown as below:

  1. Uninstall TabMon
  2. Delete TabMon folder and files
  3. Execute ‘sc stop TabMon-Postgres’ in cmd
  4. Execute ‘sc delete TabMon-Postgres’ in cmd
  5. Delete C:\Postgres folder and files
  6. Follow this YouTube instruction to install TabMon again (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF7tGSE4lm0)

Thank you very much! Regards, Andy Law
