`search-files` filter does not work until initial search is complete

I cannot filter files down whilst an initial search is happening. This means whilst searching for a term which could be used in multiple places, I cannot at the same time try and filter down the files it returns. The search-files filter just won't apply if I switch back to the search view.

Will try and provide an example later.
