Opry8 + Thunderbolt dock yields very inconsistent booting
- Model:oryp8
- BIOS version: 2023-09-08_42bf7a6
- EC version: 2023-09-08_42bf7a6
- OS: Arch Linux
- Kernel:6.8.0-arch1-1
When using a wavelink thunderbolt dock (Not their displaylink based docks), turning the dock on and then powering up the notebook will result in very random behavior regarding booting. A CMOS reset is required to get the notebook to function again. I have booted the system a few times and observed the following behaviors:
- System76 post message on all 3 displays (2 via thunderbolt + laptop internal LCD), and then hangs (Does not load OS, or respond to ESC key press)
- LCD backlight turns on but nothing happens
- No activity at all (Just the power LED turns on and the system appears dead otherwise)
- Can boot into the OS, but then every command hangs (Almost like the SSD is not responding at all - The SSD status light does not blink)
After removing the dock, and unplugging the CMOS battery, the notebook will boot up totally OK. I can plug in the thunderbolt dock after the system has posted, and the system will behave like normal until next boot up.
