Can't save to/share a file when syncthing is disabled

Open Zaijo opened this issue 5 years ago • 5 comments

sync-bug

Steps to reproduce:

  • when I wanted to share my photo
  • I expected to be able to add a photo to synced folder even when syncthing is disabled
  • I couldn't share that file. I would have to change run conditions for that occasion and change back right after sharing

Version Information

App Version: v1.1.1-dirty
Syncthing Version: 1.1.1
Android Version: Android 4.3

I have run into this issue as well. I have Syncthing configured to only run when on my home WiFi network and plugged in to power. But I still want to be able to share to Syncthing when I'm on the go. Syncthing should just save the file to the selected folder locally, even if it's not running. Then the sync of that file will happen later when the run conditions are satisfied.

Making this even more annoying is that the running (or running detection) seems to be buggy. It seems that it almost always says that it is disabled even if it should be running. To get this to work I need to open up the app "normally" using the launcher icon then go back and share again for it to work.

Here's a mockup of a UI I made in #1790 as a possible way to change the existing UI to allow for moving a file to a Syncthing folder while synchronization is disabled. The check box and associated Settings entry as described there could be optional, but it would be very useful just to have an option that moves the file even without a way to skip the error message.

This is still an issue with the latest update. It makes the Share to Syncthing option a lot less helpful, because instead of being able to share it straight from another app, I have to save it to my phone's filesystem and then cut-and-paste in a file browser.

The easiest way to "solve" this might be to remove the useless "Save to Syncthing" share option completely to make it clear that you have to use a file manager (I use Mix) to copy the files to the synced directory.
