Or just duplicate the same image and have it one with the data and one without

I see some old images the raspbian wont work with Rpi4 since the image its from 2018 and Pi4 released in 2019 I see that the Lakka is a img.gz...

You need to download the image you want to convert to squash fs extract it since img.gz its compressed image and follow the instructions in the page i gave you...

Lakka does not need conversion just open the img with 7zip and extract the .system file inside its the largest file in size,rename it after with any name eg: lakka.img...

Now that the new Zero 2 is released they have to do an update to the pi0123 version!!!

Maybe this will help First clone this https://github.com/HinTak/berryboot.git Then install the depends described in the webpage under http://www.buildroot.org/downloads/manual/manual.html#requirement And after run the script ./build-berryboot.sh device_pi0123

Zero has only 512mb ram so its not wise to use 64 bit OS as it will perform slow, even if it works with the latest berryboot for Rpi4 it...
