Rework #875 for unpriv e2e-testing

In #875 there is quite a bit of use of e2e.Privileged to work around the issue of permissions on the docker-daemon socket.

Re-work to remove the privilege requirement. Likely requires consideration of supplementary groups in the unpriv user handling of the e2e suite.
