[BUG] iOS/Mobile not autoplaying tracks / not playing at all

Open errsby opened this issue 3 months ago • 3 comments

Using the iOS web shortcut and tracks will show as playing but not be playing any media and before this audio was not autoplaying the next track (i can attest to this when the phone is off, not sure if it autoplays when the shortcut is open).

On the safari-direct webpage, content will be stuck in a loading loop and then eventually error out. Tracks will still be playable via my laptop during this.

I'm on iOS 26 (23A5330a).

I might add something as I also tried swing on IOS, for me the tracks do not autoplay only when connected to Bluetooth, as soon as I disconnect my headphones the app will now autoplay correctly even when you close the phone, as for the loop error you mention I don't have this problem myself but maybe that's because I use Firefox and not safari (even though deep inside IOS all browsers are actually just safari but I'm too dumb to explain that so you can google it yourself)

Thanks for the information, hopefully the bluetooth thing is fixable on the dev's side and I'll start using alternative browsers to fix the loading loop. Thanks!

There is a known bug in recent versions of iOS that breaks web players. A fix was discovered that involves changing a hidden Safari setting.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Safari.

Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap "Advanced".

Tap "Feature Flags".

Find the setting named "Alternate WebM Player".

Turn this setting OFF (make sure the toggle is gray).

Close Safari completely by swiping it up from the app switcher, then reopen your Swing Player PWA and try to play a song.
