Re: export / external storage

Open Gus-Fring opened this issue 5 years ago • 10 comments

Hi Sven, my point was how about letting the user define the path for the external storage? Then I can gather my data on my Onedrive. Now I have to export them one by one.

I also don't understand what changes when checking the automatic export, where to and in which format is the automatic export executed?

One more question: even if I copy .tcx files from another Coxswain app to my '/coxswain' folder, I still need to import the sessions one by one in order to see them under the workout tab?

Automatic export, automatically exports the result of each row via whatever method you last used manually. You have to do at least one manual export first so it knows what format.

To move data to a new phone, if you have "store data in external location" turned on, you can backup gym, gym-wal and gym-shm from your coxwain folder, then when you install on the new device, turn on the "store data in external location", then overwrite the 3 files created with the ones you backed up.

So the automatic export to Onedrive should already work? Will give it a try.

I have done my first 20 or so workouts without 'store data in external location', suppose this data is not importable into the performance tab? Also, I use Coxswain on two different devices and would like to consolidate data. I can import the workouts, but they don't show in 'Performance', the overwriting solution doesn't really help me here.

Try turning on 'store data in external location' and then do one more workout, that seems to update the three external files with the session you just did plus all the previous sessions.

Keep in mind that when you turn the option on it will first create those 3 files empty, which will overwrite what you have in your shared folder, so make sure you have a backup outside the shared folder, assuming it syncs both ways otherwise you'll lose all your data.

I don't think you would be able to consolidate other than importing the tcx files from one side.

Thanks dt192!

Gus-Fring, all imported workouts are not taken into account for calculating the performance by default. In Coxswain you can use the context menu on a workout item and toggle evaluate to change that.

Thanks, never saw the 'evaluate' option before, works a treat.

Would be nice if there was a user manual so I wouldn't have to bother you with my pesky questions. :-)

Also, bulk import/export features would be nice to have.

But in any case, thanks for a great piece of software, I really appreciate it very much.

I did test the automatic export funtion, it does indeed repeat the last manual export. However, if the last manual operation was an 'Share TCX...' operation, it stores only the activity, not the path. This means it only opends the window where I should specify the path. Would be nice if it stored the path as well and became truly automatic.

Gus-Fring avatar Sep 20 '19 11:09 Gus-Fring

Well, Coxswain doesn't get to know the path you're chosing :(.

Have you considered using some automation like IFTTT to move the file where ever you want.

svenmeier avatar Sep 20 '19 20:09 svenmeier

Never worked with IFTTT, not sure how to go about it.

Going back to my initial suggestion: if Coxswain offered the possibility to enter a path to the storage location in the settings menue, wouldn't that solve it?

Gus-Fring avatar Sep 20 '19 21:09 Gus-Fring

Sure, a configurable storage location would solve that. I'm have to think about the implications of that though.

Thanks for considering, I am sure this would be really popular.
