it seems to me its implementation gets the job done.

As it's also mentioned on DRF's page https://www.django-rest-framework.org/api-guide/authentication/#djoser I wouldn't think it's dead, though it's true that there isn't much activity as in other projects.

I am pretty sure that this project is no longer being maintained by anyone. I see PRs being pushed but no one seems to be managing them. I'm pretty sure that nothing has been pushed in almost a year (December 2020). I would consider this project dead since nothing is happening on this fork of it.

Though JWT support isn't baked in as it is with djoser.
