Firefox 58 won't install unsigned xpi

I get a message the add-on can't install because it can't be verified, and then a redirect to this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-signing-in-firefox?as=u&utm_source=inproduct .

I'm installing the xpi directly.
