Food for thought: Why not remodel the ATV and Resupply to have a corresponding "notch" for the umbilical off of the SDHI SMS? Model the pressurized and unpressurized variants to have rounded bottoms that fit into the SDHI SMS, and is flush with the top of the ring.

The SDHI SMS umbilical is for transferring LS fluids to and from the Service Module for further processing, and is there to get around the heat shield on the bottom of the Mk1-2 pod.

The FusTek Resupply Module and Unpressurized Resupply Carrier are intended to burn up on reentry, so they don't have a heat shield on the bottom. The lack of a heat shield means that fluid transfer lines can be passed directly through their bottom bulkheads without the need for the added complexity of an external umbilical with moving parts.

Besides, this means that people can use the FusTek parts pack with its own ATV propulsion trunk without being reliant on having the SDHI SMS also installed.
