Sumatra pdf give giving us an error that "Printer with given name doesn't exist" in windows 11

SumatraPDF version

  • SumatraPDF-3.5.2-64

Describe the bug We had Sumatra PDF-3 version that we used in Windows 10 for printing labels from a keyboard. After upgrading to Windows 11, we keep receiving an error that cannot initialize the printer, which, after my research, I upgraded to Sumatra PDF-3.5.2-64, but still getting this error (I deleted the old Sumatra and installed the new one). I even added the names of the printers in the Sumatra PDF settings, it is working fine for the first couple of printings, but then it gives me an error that the printer with a given name doesn't exist. The printers are set as the default in the control panel. We run the Sumatar PDF as an administrator

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to the kiosk
  2. Click on sales order and then print labels
  3. See the error that the printer with the given name doesn't exist. This error comes from SumatraPDF

Expected behavior I'm not sure what else I can do to fix this issue.

SumatraPDF is entirely dependent on what widows Printing sets as defaults, For example this 10 has no printers so Notepad or SumatraPDF with both fail equally to print.

However your case does seem to be an odd one as the default printer name should never change when set by Windows and you use DO NOT let Windows manage my printers. Also note although 2 printer devices neither will be usable by NotePad or any other App.

.But then again more recent Windows 10 and thus 11 changed the printing system significantly.

So ensure print managed by Windows is off to avoid the default being changed. Ensure the user has unrestricted print rights I can not print even as Admin. And Thus using a kiosk user profile will make no difference if rights are not correct (User is logged on etc.)

PS SumatraPDF is certainly not a recommended way to print Zebra Labels, It may do the job well in a very few cases, but nowhere near the quality required or attainable with Adobe adjusted PDF printing with its specialised printer drivers. SumatraPDF uses WinPrn (pixels as colours, good for InkJets) which is the worst method for ZPL which is a HIGH SPEED TEXT controlled Black and White Printer Language not a GUI one and they have PDF to ZPL converters.
