Thumbnails' generation went wrong.
SumatraPDF version v16779, prerelease
Describe the bug After the installation, the previously generated thumbnails for .PDF files are no longer displayed.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Install the given prerelease.
- See all thumbnails for PDFs (and CBRs and CBZs too!; created with a 3rd party software [XnViewMp]) disappear.
Expected behavior The thumbnails to not stop displaying after an installation of the newer prerelease.
Additional context The thumbnails do not suddenly stop displaying with the stable v3.5.2 and the prerelease v16616 (the version from which I updated).
The option "Show PDF thumbnails" was selected in the installation window.
The thumbnails themselves are fine. After an uninstallation of the given prerelease, the thumbnails for the .CBR/.CBZ files started displaying alright.
Can you re-check with latest pre-release? I've recently fixed a crash in PdfPreview.dll

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I did recheck with the latest prerelease (from yesterday) and the effect is still the same: no thumbnails display and/or generation for .PDF, .CBR, and .CBZ files.
First: thumbnails where? In Windows Explorer? Can you post screenshots:
- before installing Sumatra
- after installing Sumatra
Are thumbnails generated by SumatraPDF showing up or not?
There can be only one dll at a time for generating previews. If you install SumatraPDF with `show previes" option then SumatraPDF will be registered to generated thumbnals so it's expected that it'll over-write thumbnails from previous app. Not sure why it would be different from 3.5.2 but if you don't want SumatraPDF to generate thumbnails, then don't enable that option.
@kjk Alright, the full situation unfold:
- Yes, I want to see PDF and CBR/CBZ files' thumbnails in Windows Explorer.
- Yes, I installed SumatraPDF with the option "show PDF thumbnails in Windows" enabled.
- SumatraPDF is the only software on my computer that controls displaying thumbnails. The other software that could interfere is XnViewMP but the option for generating and displaying thumbnails for PDF and CBR/CBZ files is disabled in it.
- Thumbnails cache(s) cleared everywhere.
With SumatraPDF v.3.5.2 ["BEFORE"]:
With Sumatra ["AFTER"]:
This is the issue. Without SumatraPDF prerelease, I don't have thumbnails of PDF and CBR/CBZ files at all.
Does that mean there's an issue on SumatraPDF and XnViewMP? But if yes, then why they work together in 3.5.2?

The only way I solved this:
Install the free PDF-XChange Viewer. If you are using PDF-XChange Viewer and there are still no thumbnails add this key to your registry (only do it if you are experienced and know what your are doing):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PDF-XChangeViewer.1\shellex\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{B2F55D43-C7A4-4B7C-90D7-7A860DFA9F2A}"
Then reboot.
